Safe on Curaçao's roads together

Two cyclists have been hit in less than a week. Road safety needs everyone's attention: look ahead, give space and respect every road user.

In less than a week, two cyclists in Curaçao have been hit by a car. That is a worrying warning. Traffic is getting busier and people are increasingly distracted. That is exactly why we all need to pay closer attention.

Curaçao's roads belong to everyone. Because pavements are not available everywhere, drivers share the road with pedestrians, runners, dogs, cyclists, scooters and other road users. Everyone is vulnerable when attention and respect are missing.

Drivers: put your phone away, look carefully before turning and keep at least 1.5 metres away when passing a cyclist. Slow down and wait when it is not yet safe to pass.

Cyclists: use proper lights, make sure you are visible and ride predictably at the side of the road without putting yourself in danger. Pedestrians and runners: where possible, face oncoming traffic so you can see vehicles approach.

Getting home safely matters more than saving a few seconds. Give each other space, anticipate unexpected situations and help make Curaçao's roads safe for everyone.
